Playing with Clay
It doesn’t take a lot of time to work up some figures in clay to see how the light and shadows will work with a figure. Here is something I worked up for one of my watercolors. I love the fun shapes that shadows make.
Last night was the artist reception for the Davis County Art Show. It was amazing to be surrounded by so many great artists. I received an Honorable Mention and a purchase award for “Red Tulip Spring”. The art is displayed on three floors and can be seen at the new Davis County Building in Farmington. You should go and take a look. It is inspiring. You should also check out Catherine Hostetter’s paintings of places around Sugarhouse. It is the last Sugar House art walk tonight at Local Colors. My paintings are down stairs in the corner pocket.
I Went On A Bike Ride Last Thursday
I went on a bike ride last Thursday. This is what I saw on the trail……
A ten year old quickly turned, blocked the whole trail and stopped, as I was about to pass on her left. This is what she saw……..
me passing on the left. Because of my great prowess as a bike rider, I missed the ten year old and hit the dirt, separating my ribs from my knee caps. Now if you think, that was frightening, this is what I saw later as I picked myself, my bike, and my dignity up and continued on the ride…….
Jacob chasing his sister all, I repeat, all over the neighborhood….”Stop Jacob. Stop it.” Happy Halloween.
Keep Your Brushes In The Paint
If I go too long between putting paint to paper, my hand starts to itch and my right brain starts longing for the activity. This is a 4 1/2” by 6 1/2” watercolor that fits nicely into a 8” by 10” mat. It’s nice to do these little watercolors to keep your hand in the paint. They keep your mind free and your hands working. You can work out composition problems and practice with different colors and see how different paints make marks on paper. It’s like making sketches daily. It’s a good activity to keep you on your game.
Miscellaneous Rambling
Miscellaneous Rambling 1: Don’t you like the way a baby can defy gravity and bend.
Miscellaneous Rambling 2: I wanted to share this picture of me with “Daydreaming in Durango” at the National Watercolor Show. You couldn’t wipe the smile off my face.
Miscellaneous Rambling 3: The closing reception at Local Colors Gallery is this Friday October 12th from 6 p.m until 9 p.m. The construction workers have made a nice little walk way from either direction. No french bread but there will be treats to eat. Come say “hi” er I mean “good evening” (after all, it is a gallery)
Good Friends
I had many good friends come out for the opening show at Local Colors last Friday, a big thanks to all who came. Towards the end I was so surprised to see Bailey show up. This picture was snapped by Paula who was also very excited. This is the first time she has caught Bailey on film. If you missed the opening, you can still catch the show Tuesdays through Saturdays from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. or catch the closing reception October 12th from 6 p.m until 9 p.m.
Oh the Places You’ll Go

This is where the opening is going to be tonight.
Local Colors is tucked between this construction on the west
and this construction on the east
but look at these nice statues right out on the island in front of the gallery. It’s Sugarhouse and things are hopping. Inside the gallery are some amazing artists and some fun art. See you tonight between 6 p.m and 9 p.m for some beans and bread.
