The Flower Keep Goes Home

September was a great time of year when I was young. My uncle would pick up us kids and take us to the Utah State Fair. My uncle was in charge of the sheep for Utah State University and we would go out and see the sheep, goats, bunnies, pigs and cows.

The years have gone by and my uncle died not too long ago leaving my aunt to carry on here. I painted a watercolor of my uncle and called it “The Flower Keep”. It won an award of excellence in the 2010 Utah Watercolor Society Spring Show at the Schorr Gallery and in 2011 it traveled down to the New Mexico Watercolor Society Fall Exhibition and won the PSNM Award of Excellence. It was now time for “The Flower Keep” to go home. Yesterday I took the painting and gave it to my aunt. It brought tears to her eyes. She didn’t want to hang it up yet.  She wanted it leaning in her living room where she could see it. I told her maybe I should have painted sheep in it instead of flowers but she said, “Poppy always planted the flowers in the front window box.” So the painting has gone home where it belongs and where it will bring memories.
